A robot stood at the top of a mountain of debris and carcasses. Its human biomimetic body was slightly burnt from the lower left of its midsection up to its left thigh. Beyond the machine laid an infinite stretch of ruins. A war had recently concluded.
Lina, now twenty five years old, had just moved in Wellington, New Zealand. She was captivated by the country’s laid back lifestyle and hardworking culture exemplified by its people.
After a hard day’s work, she flopped onto her bed and buried her face into the soft quilt. “Good evening Lina, 5 messages has arrived in your inbox,” a teen female voice from her phablet said. The woman got up and responded, “State message senders.”
The teen female voice is Lina’s personal AI assistant, Ainika. She has been working on it in the past two years. Lina was only enthusiastic about the three emails which came from her family and friends. One of those three was from Anscar.
Constance tip toed as she walked into Tiana's room. Its white walls were decorated with paintings of cherry flowers. The little girl had been soundly sleeping for the past hour.
The nurse bent and started tidying picking up Tiana’s dolls that were on the floor. The little girl had an unusual preference for emo looking stuffed dolls. When the girl is given any cute stuffed doll, she’d cut its neck or stab its chest and pluck an eye or two. The doll she was holding in her sleep had one of its eyes plucked out. Its arms were of different color, black and red. The red one was bigger and had black claws.
Lina tugged her dress after she looked at tower clock for the fifth time. Pink shades battled against indigo ones as the horizon swallowed the sun.The crowd at the Sun Bay Park was already thinning out.
The girl with permed hair grabbed her phone from her bag to check for any message or missed call. There was none. She inwardly grunted.
'Perhaps he's too busy bonding with his family for the last time.' Lina concluded and gave up on waiting for that person.
