"I went to the woods because I wanted to live deliberately, I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life, to put rout all that was not life and not when I had come to die discover that I had not lived." -Henry David Thoreau
Following people's or society's dictation on where to take you life isn't always a wise decision. The path they chose for you may lead you to greener pastures but what value it will be to you if you pursued it half-heartedly? You could've chosen that path out of the role you're playing or the responsibilities you need to perform. Your forte may not be aligned with it but because you want to satisfy everybody around you, you follow them anyway. Your journey may give you laurels but you see those as worthless. The path dictated to you may give you financial security. Perhaps, you can achieve something in it. Yet at the end of the day, you will feel neither satisfaction nor contentment. You will always look for that missing piece.
Our lives can't revolve on the roles and responsibilities that we need to perform. We need time to reflect on what has been happening to our lives, listen to our hearts and plan where we want to row our boats to. Time may come that we need to go against the current and head to the place where we are the only ones who see meaning and purpose. Many obstacles may hinder us from getting there. There may be a need to leave a bigger, physical or worldly benefit in exchange for the smaller one. The things that you will forego will never amount to the indescribable feeling of becoming someone you really want to be. Nothing can make you happy other than doing what you really love.
